Joanne Elsie Bohenstengel, age 80, formerly of Sheboygan, WI and St. Germain, WI, died on Sunday, April 8th, 2018 in Hudson, FL surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Sheboygan, WI on February 24th, 1938, the daughter of the late William and MaryAnn Ziegler.
She attended St. Peter Claver elementary school and graduated from Central High School in 1956. On October 18th, 1969, she was united in marriage to Henry M. Bohenstengel in Sheboygan WI.
Joanne was employed at St. Nicolas Hospital for many years and continued the medical receptionist field until retirement in 2013. Her passion was photography, painting ceramics, and teaching line dancing. She had a deep affinity for nature and enjoyed many years of camping and fishing. Joanne belonged to the Sheboygan Turner Gymnastics Club throughout school. She was also a member of the Lioness Club in St. Germain, WI. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Henry (Hank); one brother, Thomas (Jan) Ziegler; her 11 children, Lynn (Chuck) Haack, Scott (Shari) Bohenstengel, Wendy (Rick) Smith, Steve (Gina) Wakefield, Sandy Weber, Kurt (Connie) Wakefield, Craig (Teri Beltran) Wakefield, Amy (Brian) Schmidt, Mark (Emily) Bohenstengel, Dale Bohenstengel, and Todd Bohenstengel. She is further survived by her 47 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, one Aunt Nancy Feldhausen, and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Ziegler, and a grandson, Jacob M. Schmidt.
A memorial service in celebration of Joanne’s life will be held on Friday April 20th, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, 1439 S. 12th St. Sheboygan, WI with Rev. Robert J. Lotz officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in her name.
