Mary Alice Hughes, 81, passed away March 31, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 25, 1937 in Richland Center, WI, the only child of the late Louis and Laura (Alford) Geisler.
Her family moved to Reedsburg, WI, where she graduated from Webb High School. She married William E. Hughes on February 11, 1956 at First Methodist Church in Reedsburg. Bill and Mary recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. They later moved to Kenosha, WI and have resided in Sheboygan, WI since 1965.
Mary was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for the past 53 years where she served on various committees, taught Sunday School, Bible School, and served as president of United Methodist Women. She was also the piano accompanist for the Children’s Choir for 23 years, as well as playing for countless church programs and services. Mary also used her piano talents by accompanying numerous students for local, district, and state music contests for over 50 years. She was especially proud to accompany her husband, children, and grandchildren in their musical endeavors.
She was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years and spent numerous years as a secretary at the Manitou Girl Scout Service Center until her retirement.
In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by her children Melody and Tim Manion, Rondell and Lee Prinsen, Marci Hughes, Robert and Heide Hughes, and Lori and Perry Fritz; grandchildren Sean and Meredith Manion, Matthew and Krystal Prinsen, Megan and Marcus Ninneman, Abigail and Emily Hughes, Allison and Tom Ross and Nathan Fritz (special friend Taylor Perronne); and great-grandchildren Parker and Payton Ninneman and Mason and Grace Prinsen.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 623 Ontario Avenue, Sheboygan. Visitation will take place from 10:00 to 12:00, followed by the service, with Pastor Cindy Thompson officiating. Private interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Chapel of Eternal Light.
Memorials to St. Luke United Methodist Church or the Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, 7621 N. Taylor Drive, Sheboygan, WI 53081 are welcome
Mary’s family would like to thank Dr. Mark Bettag, the staff at Matthews Oncology, and HSHS St. Nicholas Hospice for their loving care and support.
