Roger W. Fredricks, age 90, of Sheboygan, found eternal peace on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Sheboygan Progressive Care Center. He was born in Sheboygan on December 26, 1927, the son of the late Edwin and Alma Degenhardt Fredricks.
Roger attended Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School and Sheboygan North High School. He then joined the U.S. Army and was a proud World War II Veteran serving under General Mac Arthur. Roger was stationed in Japan during the rebuilding process. On September 9, 1950 he was united in marriage to Carol Holling at Holy Name Parish. They resided in Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Fox Point, Las Vegas and then back to Sheboygan for the past 27 years. Roger and Carol were married for 44 years. Carol preceded Roger in death in 1994.
Roger worked at the Kohler Company for a few years and was then involved in the Kohler strike. He was a strong supporter of the labor movement. After the strike Roger went to work at the Pabst Blue Ribbon Company for 30 years.
He was a huge sports enthusiast and loved watching all the Wisconsin teams including the Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers. In his younger years he played baseball and then he coached his son Mike’s Little League team for years. He attended his grandsons High School basketball games rarely missing a game.
Roger is survived by his sons, Michael (Laurie) Fredricks, David Fredricks and Daniel Fredricks; five grandchildren, Shawn, Michael (Ashley), Jessica, Curtis and Christopher(Marie); a special nephew, Jeff (Lynn) Knaak; and his former daughter-in-law, Cheryl Fredricks. He was further survived by many other relatives and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Edwin, two sisters, Dolores Knaak and Betty DenBoer and by a very special friend Lucille Lacey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave. Sheboygan with Rev. Matthew Widder officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Mass at 4:00 p.m. Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Roger’s family would like to give a big thank you to his neighbors the Hartman family, for all the help they gave Roger through the years. Also, thanks are extended to the wonderful pharmacist workers at Target that always treated Roger with such kindness and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for the compassion and care that was given to him.
