Jim Guenther was born on November 4, 1937 and passed away on January 9, 2018 at the age of 80 after being treated for dementia for 7 years. He attended St. Peter Claver School and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1956. Jim was united in marriage with Judy Starck on April 22, 1961 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Sheboygan. During his working years, Jim was employed as a plumber by Aldag/Honold Mechanical Inc. and retired after 50 years of service. He enjoyed biking, swimming, camping, woodworking, square dancing and belonged to the Sheboygan Turners. Jim was an usher at St. Dominic’s for 50 years, a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Sheboygan Jaycee’s and a volunteer basketball coach for the Special Olympics. He always loved having his children and grandchildren come and visit whenever they could.
Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy; children, Michael (Patty) and Mark (Mary); grandchildren, Lindsey (Jessica) Cadoo, Ashley (Mitch) Schmidt, Tyler Guenther, Megan (Jay) Hewitt, Matt (Sami) Guenther, Danielle Saunders, Brianna (Alex) Vejvoda and Crystal Kraak; great-grandchildren, Brody, Case and Bentley Schmidt and Jayne Hewitt; and brother, Joseph (special friend, Sandy). He is further survived by other relatives and friends. Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Debra; parents, Joseph and Amelia Guenther; sister-in-law, JoAnne Guenther; nephew, Paul Guenther; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil (Ruth) Starck and other close family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 2136 N. 21st St., Sheboygan, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Mass at 6:00 p.m. Private family burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s name.
Jim’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff at Morningside Health Center, Terrace Estates and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their loving care, compassion and support.
