Dorothy Jeanette Ter Maat, 95, of Sheboygan passed away peacefully at Sheboygan Senior Community on Monday, January 1, 2018. Dorothy was born to the late Harmon and Ada (Lagasse) Wassink on November 11, 1922 in Sheboygan. She graduated from Sheboygan Central High School, class of 1941.
On October 19, 1944 Dorothy was united in marriage to Winston Ter Maat at Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Until she had children, she was employed as a secretary at City News in Sheboygan.
Dorothy was a good example of living a life of faith in the Lord. She was an active lifetime member of Hope Reformed Church. Dorothy was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir and was involved with Women's Ministries.
Dorothy enjoyed entertaining and was known for her excellent cooking. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed crocheting, word puzzles and crafts.
Dorothy was a resident of the Sheboygan Senior Community since 2011. She was involved with many activities, including the music group Friendly Voices. Dorothy also enjoyed visits with therapy dogs and cats. She made many friends with other residents and staff and always had a warm smile to share with everyone.
Dorothy is survived by her son John (Emily) Ter Maat of Durango Colorado; daughter Mary (Jeff) Justus of Sheboygan; grandchildren Chelsea (Mat) Wendland, Ashleigh (Beau) Ewing, Jenny (Brian Thill) Justus-Thill and Jordan Justus; great-grandchildren Graham and Carter Wendland; nieces, nephews and great granddog Zoe.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Eugene (Ruth and Lorraine) Wassink; sister Edith (Ulysses) Cole; sister-in-law Edith and brother-in-law Ken Wondergem.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Reformed Church, 612 Ontario Ave., Sheboygan with Rev. Bill TeWinkle officiating. A time of visitation and support will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials can be made to Hope Reformed Church. Condolences may be expressed online at www.reinboldfh.com
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Sheboygan Senior Community for their wonderful care and friendship. The compassionate care from the Sharon Richardson Hospice, Dr. Reick Beiersdorf and Debbie will always be remembered. The family also wishes to acknowledge the pastoral care provided by Pastor Donna Van Orden and Pastor Bill TeWinkle.
