    Marlene J. Thompson

Born in Elyria, Ohio on Nov 15, 1937

Died on Dec 28, 2017 and resided in Sheboygan, Wisconsin

Marlene J. Thompson, 80, was born on November 15, 1937 in Elyria, OH, and passed away on December 28 in Sheboygan, WI after a long illness.  She was united in marriage with Dale Thompson on August 30, 1958. Marlene was a lifelong resident of Elyria and Grafton Ohio until 2017, when she and her husband, Dale, moved to Wisconsin. A 1955 graduate of Elyria High School, she was salutatorian of her class and active in band and orchestra. She continued to play music throughout her life, mastering five instruments and sharing her talent in churches throughout Lorain County and then at her residence in Sheboygan.

Marlene was also a 1984 graduate of Lorain County Community College with an associates degree in business, and worked primarily as a treasurer and office manager in schools and other public institutions, including Midview Schools, the Murray Ridge School, and for Ashland University. At age 70 she was elected Carlisle Township Fiscal Officer, winning a second term three years later.

Marlene devoted her life to serving her family and community, always bringing a strong sense of dedication to her work and service in every arena. She was a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church, and led Bible studies and worship in several churches. When her health made necessary a move to assisted living (at Sheboygan Senior Community), she became an energetic participant in the life of the community, leading worship and other activities, providing music, and assisting the staff in their work serving her fellow residents. As she liked to say, “You need to bloom where you’re planted.”

Marlene is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dale, their son and daughter-in-law Terry and Cindy Thompson, their granddaughter Marin Skidmore and her husband, Nick, her brother Dennis, and two nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Thelma (Thomasheska) Manns, and her sister Gloria Aldrich.

Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Sheboygan Senior Community in the Tree of Life Room, 3505 County Rd. Y, Sheboygan, WI 53083, at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sheboygan Senior Community.
