Bernice Caroline Goldmann, 89, of Sheboygan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Bernice was born on April 8, 1928, a daughter of the late Edward and Alma Kirst. She was the 4th of 5 children. She attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Plymouth and was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 47.
On March 4, 1950 Bernice wed Elmer Goldmann of Sheboygan in a simple ceremony in Jeffersonville, IN. At the time Elmer was stationed at Fort Knox, KY while serving in the U.S. Army. Bernice was a dedicated military wife. She traveled with Elmer and their children, setting up a home at each of Elmer’s military assignments: Kentucky, Alaska, Georgia, Virginia and Germany.
In 1966 Bernice and Elmer settled in Sheboygan, Elmer’s hometown, following his retirement from the U.S. Army. Bernice and Elmer were married 61 years. Elmer preceded her in death in 2011.
Bernice was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would bake cookies and have other treats for them when they visited. She enjoyed watching Brewer games and Family Feud.
Bernice is survived by 3 children: Mike (Pam) Goldmann of Albuquerque, NM, Ron (Gail) Goldmann of Sheboygan and Mae (Dave) Teller of Fort Sumner, NM. She is further survived by her 5 grandchildren: Tim (Jennifer) Goldmann of Houston, TX, Andy (Amber) Goldmann of Albuquerque, David (Tami) Goldmann of Sheboygan, Dan (Kelly) Goldmann of Wauwatosa and Melissa (Eric) Visel of Muskego. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren: Lillian, Nolan, Rachael, Zachary, Nathaniel, Lydia, Jonah, Henry, Arlo and Jordan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barb Kirst and her nephew Gary (Bonnie) Jugenheimer.
In addition to her husband Elmer, Bernice was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Jugenheimer and Lucille Bonnett and her brothers Ray Kirst and Roger Kirst.
Funeral services for Bernice will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 4:00PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1121 Georgia Ave, Sheboygan, with Rev. James Hartman officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Sunday afternoon from 2:00PM until the time of the service. Entombment will take place on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Gardens of Peace Mausoleum at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Bernice’s name and may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Condolences may be expressed online at www.reinboldfh.com.
